Most of us once in a while suffer indigestion and heart-burn feelings. First, we have to understand or find out the reasons for indigestion or heartburn sensation.
What is heartburn?
Heartburn is the condition caused due to acidic reflux which is a result where some of the food content of the stomach is forcibly pushed back up to the esophagus. This causes a burning feeling in the chest.
What is indigestion?
Indigestion is not a disease rather its symptoms we experience such as bloating, heartburn, abdominal pain, gas, nausea. It is also called Dyspepsia or stomach upset commonly said as discomfort in the upper abdomen.
Both of these mostly have common reasons now let us discuss those.
- Fried and oily food is the main reason and one should stop eating it immediately.
- Next is to watch our eating habits and lifestyle.
- Eating large meals at one time.
- Drinking water while eating food dilutes our digestive juices which slow the process of digestion.
- Sleeping or sitting just after eating big meals.
- Keeping long gaps between meals must be avoided as the metabolism rate slows down.
- Smoking ----- must quit.
- Drinking alcohol---- quit.

- Eat small meals every 11/2 to 2 hours gap.
- To reduce the production of acid in the body make a habit of eating alkaline foods.
- Have to understand the alkaline and acidic foods water being neutral with Ph 7. Likewise, see and learn about the list of fruits and vegetables from the pH balance list.
- Include fresh fruits and vegetables everyday diet. Fruits especially guava, pears, mango, watermelon and apples, and vegetables such as potato, bottle gourd, ridge gourd, etc.
- Banana reduces acidity after eating food.
- Honey, dates, corn, mushroom, raisins, curd, etc are the best remedies for acidity.
- Vegetable juices help too, especially juices of cabbage, carrots, cucumber, bottle gourd. Since it has a high potassium and magnesium level, which creates a good balance between acidity and alkalinity.
- Try to maintain a healthy diet.
- Also, try to maintain a stress-free life.
- Regular exercise of any form such as walking,, jogging, running, swimming, skipping, and yoga is helpful.
- Stop smoking and alcohol consumption.
- Stop eating fried and spicy food.
- Move around the house just after eating meals.
- Drink Lukewarm water if a possible whole day or at least after every meal.
Few household remedies:
- Take a glass of water with sodium-bi-carbonate for instant relief.
- Take warm with ginger juice, a pinch of asafoetida (thing), and little black salt for instant relief.
- Drink water boiled with cucumber, banana, jaggery, or cumin seed for acidity relief.
